In a viral facebook post earlier today August 29, Sen Bong Go filed Senate Bill 1291 or the Autism Cooperation, Accountability, Research, Education and Support (CARES) Bill which aims to give Philhealth the directive to develop and implement benefit packages for PWAs to cover treatment and therapy.

The post itself had 12 bills that Sen Bong Go is authoring, however Senate Bill 1291 is a standout with 5,000+ likes indicating a very large but underserved population who suffer from a lack of accessibility to cheap treatment and/or therapy.

With the median (majority) income of Filipino families only at P372,000 or roughly P31,000 per month, a sickness in the family can easily bring any Filipino family into ruin, and since ASD affects an individual for life, affordable and accessible solutions should be a priority of the Philippine government.
